Distance: The boxes are usually placed 20 to 25 feet apart (measured from cup to cup).
Gameplay Rules

Teams: 2 players (singles) or 4 players (teams of 2, alternating turns).

Throwing: Players take turns tossing washers from behind or beside one box toward the opposite box.

Rounds: Each round, players throw 3 washers (alternating if playing teams).
Scoring

In the Cup: 3 points

Closest to the cup (if no washer lands in the box/cup): may earn 1 point in some house rules.

Cancellation scoring: Only the team with the higher points in a round scores. The opposing team’s points are subtracted.
Winning

Play to 21 points (must land exactly on 21, or you "bust" and go back to 15 or 0, depending on house rules).
